Monica Maduekwe is a sustainable energy specialist with rich experience in renewable energy, energy efficiency, gender mainstreaming, resource mobilisation and project development, all accomplished by occupying several capacities as programme officer at the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) for 10+ years. She joined ECREEE at the end of 2011, after the Centre became operational in 2010, providing her with the unique opportunity of being at the fore-front of those influencing the design and development of the sustainable energy industry in West Africa.
At ECREEE, she developed the ECREEE Resource Mobilisation Strategy, with a fund mobilisation target of USD 654 Million, as well as several technical projects to mobilize funding for ECREEE and the private sector, including female entrepreneurs. These include: the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) supported project that provided technical assistance for West African women entrepreneurs seeking investment of up to USD 50 Million, the USD 1 Million African Development Bank (AfDB) supported project which seeks to produce a pipeline of investment-ready women-led energy projects through feasibility studies, as well as the Global Environment Facility (GEF)/UNIDO project on greening the productive sector in the Gambia, which included developing renewable energy projects and securing committed co-funding from the private sector in the tune of over USD 2 Million.
Maduekwe has a Master of Science (MSc.) Degree in Energy Studies with specialization in Energy and the Environment from the Center for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP), University of Dundee, Scotland, UK.
In addition, Maduekwe has a Certificate of Mastery in Credit and Credit Risk Analysis from the New York Institute of Finance; Professional Certificate in Negotiation Mastery from Harvard Business School; Certificate in Mechanics of Project Finance with Specialization in Conventional and Renewable Power Project Finance from the International Faculty of Finance.
